Police changed the charges against a woman accused in the shooting death of a man over stolen electricity last week, and a man arrested in the death is in jail on a $1 million bond.
Michael Paige, 20, of Bennington Ave-nue, appeared for arraign-ment Monday before Judge Elizabeth Kobly of Youngstown Municipal Court on an aggravated-murder charge.
Paige and Jasmin Fletcher, 21, of Lora Avenue, are charged in the shooting of Munir Blake, 31, also of Lora Avenue.
Fletcher had been charged with aggravated murder and placed in Mahoning County jail on a $1 million bond, but that charge was reduced to felony obstruction of justice Monday.

On Monday, in Martel v. Clair, the Supreme Court addressed the question of the appropriate standard to be applied by federal courts when someone facing a death sentence requests that his appointed counsel be replaced. In a unanimous opinion by Justice Kagan, it held that the correct standard is the “interests of justice” standard, rejecting California’s argument (supported by twenty-five states as amici) that a much tougher standard should be applied. The Court observed that Congress had not directly addressed this question, and therefore it was, in a sense, “writing on a blank slate.” But faced with the need to craft a standard, it explained that it preferred to copy the familiar and workable “interests of justice” standard rather than “concoct something novel,” such as the one suggested by California. Demonstrating again that she is fast becoming one of the most enjoyable Justices to read, Justice Kagan noted that California’s proposed standard “comes from . . . . well, from nowhere,”

CINCINNATI — A financial planner and investment adviser will serve more than three years in prison after bilking millions of dollars from clients, the U.S. Justice Department said.
Elliot Kravitz, 54, of Mason was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court to 41 months in prison and ordered to pay approximately $1.7 million in restitution to customers of LPL Financial Services, of which his company EMC Financial Services Inc. was a contract broker, said Carter Stewart, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio.
The sentence was handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge Herman J. Weber.

Newport News police are seeking the identity of a man they say robbed a Dollar General on Dec. 23, 2011 and again on Jan. 9.
The man first entered the store located in the 17000 block of Warwick Blvd between 9 p.m. and 9:18 p.m. armed with a handgun and demanded money, a Newport News Police Department news release said. He did the same thing on Jan. 9 between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 8:40 p.m.
The robber took more than $1,000 in cash during both incidents and fled northbound on Warwick Boulevard, the news release said.

HAMILTON — Victor Gantt admitted he struck a 75-year-old Middletown man four or five times in the head with an ax last May and then ditched his clothes because he knew they would be evidence.
A videotaped statement Gantt made to police a day after the gruesome homicide was played to the Butler County jury which will decide his fate in the death penalty case.
On Thursday. Gantt, 26, said Leroy Jones of swung an aluminum baseball bat at him, striking him in the shoulders and on his head after Gantt smashed a glass French door and entered the home on Brentwood Street in the pre-dawn hours on May 2.
