Man shot and killed by Cleveland police in Parma

PARMA, Ohio — A Cleveland police detective investigating the burglary of a police officer’s home shot and killed a suspect in Parma after a struggle for the detective’s gun early this morning.

Cleveland police spokesman Sgt. Sammy Morris said police were investigating a burglary at the home of a Second District police officer. The investigation led a Cleveland detective to a home in the 6100 block of Wareham Street in Parma at 12:17 a.m., where there was a confrontation with a man when he tried to grab the detective’s gun, police said.

During the struggle, the gun discharged, striking the man. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where he later died. The name of the man was not available.

The incident is being investigated by Parma police.
