Two Virginia Beach men were arrested after they were spotted in the background of a live TV report during Hurricane Irene, apparently looting an evacuated home in Sandbridge.
Patrick James McGuire, 29, and Charles Glenn Andrews IV, 22, were both arrested at a residence in the 3200 block of Sandpiper Road, about one block away from where they were allegedy spotted removing alcohol and stereo equipment from a neighbor’s home. The stolen property was recovered from the suspects and returned to the victim.
The two men are charged with burglary and grand larceny.
Police spokesman Adam Bernstein said that just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, the two men were spotted in the background of a WVEC-TV live report in front of a home in Sandbridge. The men were seen leaving the damaged home carrying items.
Officers who were in the area responding to the storm initiated a foot pursuit and arrested the two men.
